The center is located just 12 miles south of Kuching
in Borneo’s 1613-acre Semenggoh Nature Reserve. It is not a zoo; the animals
are not kept in cages and are free to roam about the thick, green forest
canopy. Rather than just attract tourists, the primary goal of the center is to
actually rehabilitate animals and get them back into the wild if at all
possible. While the endanger orangutan are the primary reason the people visit
the Semenggoh wildlife center. The center offers an increasingly rare
opportunity to view orangutans in a natural habitat. Take
a walk on the trails and try to spot semi-wild Orangutans. There are feeding
times scheduled everyday at the feeding platform. However always bear in
mind that the main aim of the Center is to return these animals back into their
habitat. Do not be disappointed if you do not see any roaming the jungles or
coming back to feed as this means they are able to forage on their own and do
not need human assistance.
